My Movie Night Picks

For me every night is movie night. I can’t say that I’ve seen every film but I will say that I’ve seen the majority of Rom Coms and Chick Flicks out there. It seems only fair to share my gained knowledge with the world.

My Movie Night Picks

I’ve taken this very seriously. I have chosen various different categories of movies, chosen my three favourites and put them in order. I clearly have no life.

American High School:

Films set in American High Schools, it is what it says on the tin. Teenage girls dealing with their drastically terrible life, and making an idiot out of themselves along the way. Includes unsuspecting love interests, rumours, gossip and car problems.

Mean Girls (2004)

“She doesn’t even go here.”

Easy A (2010)

“I’ve got a pocket got a pocket full of sunshine.”

The Princess Diaries (2001)

“Goodbye, trolley people!”

Coming of Age:

I don’t fit in, my life is so hard, why doesn’t the boy fancy me, girl gang goals, that sort of thing. Containing ‘snogging’, adults that don’t understand, embarrassing dancing, and very awkward moments.

Angus, Thongs and Perfect Snogging (2008)

“If you haven’t noticed I am a woman now. I wear a bra!”

Wild Child (2008)

“I didn’t start it, it wasn’t my fault, and if this were America, I would sue.”

Chalet Girl (2011)

“No, irony is free. It’s sarcasm you’re paying for. Ironically.”

90s Chick Flicks:

Good girls making transformations, bad boys getting their comeuppance, the girl gets the boy in the end, couple goals, the best fashion and hair ever and before teenagers were annoying bitchy little shits.

10 Things I Hate About You (1999)

“It’s not everyday you find a girl who’ll flash someone to get you out of detention.”

Clueless (1995)

“As if.”

She’s All That (1999)

“I feel just like Julia Roberts in Pretty Woman. You know, except for the whole hooker thing.”

British Rom Coms:

Falling for the wrong person, a mix up, a badass song and transformation, a big event to confess their love and prince charming arriving on your door step and living happily ever after. Remember the obvious guy will always get the girl.

Love, Rosie (2014)

“You’re lucky she didn’t trip over your tongue dragging half way across the ground.”

Austenland (2013)

“I’m single, because, apparently the only good men are fictional.”

The Decoy Bride (2011)

“I’m a whole lot hotter than I look.”

Teenage Action Adventure:

A super human teenage boy gets whisked away after a traumatic event. Meets up with a badass girl and nerdy best friend. Saves the world, creepy evil adult defeated. Jealous slimely guys nearly ruins every thing (probably played by Jake Abel). May contain pre Magic Mike Alex Pettyfer.

I Am Number Four (2011)

“Redbull is for pussies.”

Percy Jackson & The Lighting Thief (2010)

“This is a pen.”

Stormbreaker (2006)

“You’re never too young to die.”

Fairy Tales:

Some messed up fairy tales, bad guys you want to root for, prince charming with fabulous hair, incredible one liners, and some weird surprises around every corner.

Stardust (2007)

“Do the stars gaze back?”

The Princess Bride (1987)

“My name is Inigo Montoya, you killed my father, prepare to die!”

Ella Enchanted (2004)

“I wonder if my opponent is basing her opinion on the Prince’s politics or how cute she thinks his butt is?”

Animated:

Just some animated happily ever after, probably containing a deeper darker message for older viewers. The unexpected will always save the day.

Tangled (2010)

“Frying pans… who knew, right?”

Shrek (2001)

“I like that boulder. That is a nice boulder.”

Inside Out (2015)

“What’s ‘poo-ber-tee’?”

Period Romantic Dramas:

Not for everyone but my favourites. Amazing costumes, amazing actors, some sexy scenes, turning history on it’s head and a bitter sweet ending.

Marie Antoinette (2006)

“Let them eat cake.”

Shakespeare In Love (1998)

“I would not have thought it: there IS something better than a play!”

The Other Boleyn Girl (2008)

“I have torn this country apart for YOU!”

Musicals:

Not a musical kind of gal, but I won’t say no to these three. Containing some of the best songs ever, cringe moments, just sing your heart out but don’t hold out much hope for the ending. Yes pitch perfect isn’t actually a musical but does that mean you can’t sing along?

The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

“I see you shiver with antici…….. PATION!”

Pitch Perfect (2012)

“Even though some of you are pretty thin, you all have fat hearts, and that’s what matters.”

Moulin Rouge! (2001)

“The greatest thing you’ll ever learn is just to love and be loved in return.”

And to anyone who says ‘you didn’t include Harry Potter’, one does not simply watch one of the Harry Potter films, and to watch all eight at once (which is how it should be done) would take a whole lot longer than ‘a movie night’.
